Whiting Mills Series
In the fall of 2020 I took a studio in Winsted, CT for ten months. During this period of time I experienced a creative burst that resulted in a prolific body of work and the advancement of my painting both in scale and imagery. Historically I have worked at a very intimate scale. I began working on larger sheets of Yupo paper at a size of 26 x 20 inches. The stacking elements of the imagery suggested a vertical format so I began hinging the two sheets together. The interest to advance the size of the work continued and one day before leaving the studio I hung two large scrolls next to one another that created an overall size of 5 x 5 feet. I had an immediate and visceral response as this struck me as the size that I had been seeking. I continued to pursue this size both on large rolls of Yupo paper and eventually on canvas (see Paintings section of this website).
